NATHI

Nathi represents a new generation of artists who refuse to be confined by genre or geography. Born in São Paulo and now based in Los Angeles, the Brazilian-American singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist has crafted a distinctive musical identity by blending the warmth of Brazilian rhythms with the emotional depth of contemporary R&B, soul, jazz and reggae. Singing in both Portuguese and English, she has built an independent career rooted in authenticity, self-expression and artistic freedom. More than simply a vocalist, Nathi is a complete creative force, writing, producing and shaping every aspect of her artistic vision, from the music itself to the visual worlds that accompany it.

Music became part of Nathi's life from an early age. Growing up in São Paulo, she was immersed in the sounds of Brazilian legends such as Elis Regina, Gal Costa and Cazuza, while also discovering international icons like Whitney Houston and Céline Dion. At just eight years old, she began studying classical piano before expanding into vocal training, guitar, songwriting and eventually music production. These early experiences laid the foundation for the genre-fluid approach that would later define her career, allowing her to combine sophisticated musicianship with a natural instinct for melody and storytelling.

At the age of seventeen, Nathi made the bold decision to leave Brazil and move to Los Angeles to study at the prestigious Musicians Institute in Hollywood. The transition represented a significant personal and artistic challenge. Living thousands of miles from home meant adapting to a new culture while pursuing an uncertain career in music. Yet this experience of displacement also became one of her greatest creative inspirations, shaping much of the introspective songwriting that would appear throughout her early work.

After graduating from the Musicians Institute, Nathi chose the independent route rather than waiting for a record deal. She began producing her own music, steadily developing her sound while expanding her skills behind the mixing desk. Becoming both producer and artist gave her complete creative control, allowing every release to reflect her artistic identity without compromise. This DIY approach would become one of the defining characteristics of her career, distinguishing her from many emerging artists.

Her first major release arrived with the self-produced EP Foreign, a deeply personal project inspired by her experience of living far from home. Rather than focusing solely on homesickness, the EP explored themes of identity, belonging and cultural duality. It introduced listeners to the signature qualities that continue to define her music today: warm vocals, intimate lyricism and an effortless fusion of Brazilian musical traditions with contemporary R&B and soul production.

As her confidence grew, Nathi expanded her creative ambitions beyond her solo work. She established herself as a songwriter and producer for other artists, collaborating with musicians including Alma Lake, Lia Farrington and Foxxanne. At the same time, she also contributed to film music, co-producing soundtracks for the feature films Honor Up (2018) and The List (2017). These experiences further broadened her musical vocabulary while reinforcing her versatility as both a producer and composer.

In 2018, Nathi released Comfort Me, a collaboration with Grammy-winning songwriter Timothy Bloom. The single marked an important step forward in her career, demonstrating her ability to work alongside internationally respected musicians while remaining faithful to her own artistic identity. The soulful duet highlighted her expressive vocal delivery and introduced her music to a wider audience beyond Brazil and Los Angeles.

Rather than chasing commercial trends, Nathi continued refining her signature sound through a series of independent releases including Human, Deixa, Desce and Volta Pra Mim. Each song further explored the meeting point between Brazilian groove and alternative R&B, often incorporating jazz harmonies, reggae textures and retro-pop influences. Singing naturally in both Portuguese and English, she developed a multicultural musical language that reflects her own life between two countries and two cultures.

One of the defining moments of her artistic development came in 2020 with the launch of TheTreeGirl Sessions, a live performance series that has since become the heart of her creative identity. Unlike traditional studio releases, each session showcases Nathi creating music in real time, building beats, arranging instrumentation, writing lyrics and collaborating spontaneously with fellow musicians. The project reveals not only the richness of her musicianship but also her creative process, offering audiences an intimate look at the artist behind the songs. Over the years, the series has continued to evolve, reaching multiple seasons and becoming one of her most recognizable artistic signatures.

Beyond the music itself, Nathi has become increasingly involved in every visual aspect of her career. She produces, co-directs and edits many of her own music videos and creative projects, carefully constructing an aesthetic inspired by her life between Brazil and California. Her visuals share the same warmth and intimacy found in her songwriting, combining natural landscapes, vintage imagery and cinematic storytelling into a cohesive artistic universe. This multidisciplinary approach has helped distinguish her in an increasingly visual music industry.

Throughout her journey, Nathi has spoken openly about the emotional challenges of building a career abroad. In interviews, she has reflected on the loneliness of leaving home at a young age and the difficulty of navigating a foreign culture while pursuing music professionally. Rather than hiding these experiences, she channels them into her songwriting, transforming vulnerability into one of her greatest artistic strengths. Her music often explores themes of distance, belonging, love and self-discovery with remarkable honesty and emotional nuance.
